Monday, 23 March, 2015, marked the start of a sombre week in KPMG Singapore as staff and partners, together with the rest of Singapore, mourned the passing of the country's founding prime minister Mr Lee Kuan Yew.

During the national mourning week leading up to Mr Lee's funeral on Sunday, 29 March, KPMG staff and partners expressed their sadness and condolences in various ways. Staff took to an online tribute site on the intranet named "Remembering Mr Lee Kuan Yew", as well as a remembrance book which was placed on a memorial table in the Clubhouse, to write their tributes. The Clubhouse also suspended after hours activities and sales of alcoholic drinks.

Leading the tributes was Managing Partner Tham Sai Choy. He wrote: "No description of Mr Lee Kuan Yew is as meaningful as the thank you from the people he led... While we will all miss him, we also celebrate the torch of hope he lit for the rest of mankind looking for betterment of their lives."

Nicholas Huang from Tax shared a touching poem and wrote: "In our 50th year of independence, (upon his death), he is still bringing Singaporeans together in a way nobody else can."

On Tuesday morning at the Clubhouse, there were teary eyes as staff members watched the live television screening of the funeral procession from the Istana to the lying in state ceremony at Parliament House.

Many employees arranged with managers and partners to take time off work while others took personal time to join the massive queues to pay their last respects to Mr Lee at Parliament House. As one staff member puts it, "He may be gone but Mr Lee Kuan Yew and his legacy will forever live on in our hearts. May he rest in peace."
