PEAK (Programme for Elite Athletes at KPMG) athletes Ong Hui Hui and Marcus Phua, who played floorball and squash respectively, showed true grit and determination at the games this year. Both had put in countless hours of practice, but those hours bred a confidence which shone at the games.

Said Hui Hui, whose team took home the gold for the wome's floorball segment: “Juggling between training and work was not easy, so I'm delighted that all the hard work finally paid off.

"I'm really happy that my team managed to bring in the gold for Singapore in floorball's debut as a SEA Games sport."

Conversely, for Marcus, the stress came from the pressure to end the 20-year gold medal drought for squash.

"It was an amazing feeling when I won the gold medal," said Marcus of the top place he got with team mate Vivian Rhamanan in the men's jumbo doubles. He also took home the silver medal in the men's team match.

Marcus, who is on the last leg of the sabbatical he took to focus on squash, added: "Sometimes I'm more relieved than happy. That moment when I was up singing the national anthem is something I will remember forever."
