On 5 December the 11th National Congress of Professional Corporate Directors took place in Moscow. It was organized by the Russian Institute of Directors and the Board of the National Registry of Professional Corporate Directors, which brings together more than 500 professionals successfully working on the boards of directors of more than 600 Russian companies and banks. KPMG in Russia and the CIS was the general sponsor of the congress.
The main goal of the Russian Institute of Directors is to establish an effective corporate governance model in Russia to improve the use of financial resources and raise investment appeal. One of the ways of resolving this task is to hold the annual congresses of professional corporate directors. This year the central topic of the congress was a discussion of the role of corporate directors and corporate secretaries in the development of a corporate governance system in Russian companies, and how to ensure effective interaction between management and the boards of directors of companies. The participants also discussed the results of a survey of corporate governance practice and the work of the boards of directors of Russian companies in 2011–2012 performed by the Russian Institute of Directors jointly with the New Economic School.
Alexei Romanenko, Partner, Audit, KPMG, representing the Audit Committee Institute in Russia, delivered a presentation within the framework of the congress on KPMG's contribution to the development of the professional community of corporate directors in Russia, and also the activities of the Audit Committee Institute.
