Recently, the UK National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) has produced a report on cyber threats to the UK legal sector, with the purpose of helping law firms understand current cyber security threats and the extent to which the legal sector is being targeted and to offer guidance on how they can protect their practice.

In common with many other industries, the cyber threat to the UK legal sector is significant. Law firms are an attractive target for cyber attack because they hold sensitive client information, handle significant funds and are a key enabler in commercial and business transactions such as acquisitions. The cyber threats identified in the report apply to law firms of all sizes and practice.

The report also points out that the number of reported incidents has grown substantially along with financial and reputational impact.

Also included are NCSC’s 10 Steps to Cyber Security which is a guide for board members and NCSC’s Small Business Guide which is aimed at smaller firms with limited resources.

The detailed report can be found here.

If you would like to discuss the report, the implications to your practice and steps that can be put in place to assist, please reach out to our cyber security team here in the Channel Islands or your regular KPMG Contact. We would be delighted to talk to you.
