Going for Growth is a highly successful programme which provides a unique peer learning environment for female entrepreneurs.
KPMG is proud to support Going for Growth in association with Enterprise Ireland.
More than 12,000 women in Ireland are setting up new businesses each year but there is still significant untapped potential amongst female entrepreneurs with just one in three Irish women having a positive view of their entrepreneurial capabilities. Additionally, with fewer women than men indicating significant growth ambitions for their businesses, (GEM Report 2013)*, there is a clear requirement for business development initiatives for female entrepreneurs in Ireland.
Now in its eight cycle, Going for Growth is a highly successful programme which provides a unique peer learning environment for female entrepreneurs with a focus on growth goals and time defined milestones.
In 2016, the award winning programme will support 95 female entrepreneurs to grow their businesses over six months. Participants aim to significantly increase their turnover and expect to make considerable additional economic impact in terms of jobs creation and export sales over the next few years. Drawn from across Ireland, the ambitious entrepreneurs have already achieved combined annual sales of €58 Million, 1,060 employees and 43% are currently exporting. Going for Growth was recently announced as the Winner of the European Enterprise Promotion Award 2015, investing in entrepreneurial skills.
Paula Fitzsimons, the National Director and Founder of Going for Growth, says Irish women have the entrepreneurial talent and spirit required to succeed: ‘Since the beginning, the Going for Growth initiative has been funded by the European Social Fund (ESF) and the Department of Justice and Equality under the Equality for Women Measure and by Enterprise Ireland. In making Going for Growth available to ambitious women entrepreneurs, we are delighted to have KPMG as co-sponsor. Women entrepreneurs need encouragement and support to develop their businesses to their full growth potential. Going for Growth is designed to do just that by assisting them to fully exploit their entrepreneurial talent.’
Commenting on this year’s launch, Shaun Murphy, Managing Partner at KPMG in Ireland said: ‘KPMG is delighted to be associated with the continued success of the Going for Growth programme. Encouraging entrepreneurship is at the heart of Ireland’s return to prosperity and entrepreneurs play an important role in bringing about a renewed energy and vitality to the economy, as well as bringing about opportunities for job creation at all levels.’
In 2014, Going for Growth was noted as an inspiring practice by the EU and OECD LEED (Local Economic and Employment Development) in a report entitled ‘The Missing Entrepreneurs’. In June, Going for Growth received a good practice accolade from the European Institute of Gender Equality (EIGE). In 2015, the initiative was awarded the Investing in Entrepreneurial Skills Category at the European Enterprise Promotion Awards.
