KPMG Australia today announced the appointment of leading Australian employment lawyer James Simpson as a partner in KPMG Law, commencing on 16 January 2017. Based in Sydney, James will lead KPMG Law’s employment law service offering.
James joins KPMG Law from Arnold Bloch Leibler where he held the position of Partner and National Head of Employment. In this role, James advised many of Australia’s largest and most respected organisations, as well as Commonwealth and State government departments.
David Morris, National Partner in Charge of KPMG Law said: “We are delighted to announce the appointment of James. He will focus on providing employment law services as part of a holistic employment and industrial relations offering. This will include complex employment disputation, organisational restructuring, industrial relations management and much more.”
He noted that James Simpson was referred to in The Legal 500 Asia Pacific as being ‘strategically brilliant with an encyclopaedic knowledge of the law’. James was also named one of Australia’s best lawyers in the 2010 Australian Corporate Lawyers Association’s Legal Benchmarking Report.
“James’ appointment reflects the ongoing commitment of KPMG to grow its legal practice in those areas which are synergistic with the firm’s broader service offerings and consistent with this strategy James will work closely with KPMG’s peoples businesses in the Advisory and Tax divisions,” he said. “We are committed to delivering high quality legal services and we are absolutely delighted to have a partner of James’ calibre joining the practice.”
The appointment of James continues the focused build out of the KPMG Law practice and follows on from the recent appointment of Nick Finlayson to lead the real estate practice and Mr Morris noted that “we are actively looking for additional high quality lawyers to further broaden the depth and breadth of the practice.”
