PETALING JAYA, 1 March 2018 – KPMG in Malaysia, marks its 90th anniversary this year thus making it the oldest professional accounting services firm in the country. Its history can be traced back to 1928 in a small accounting firm set up in Ipoh.
To kick off the year-long anniversary celebration, the Malaysian firm organized an acrobatic lion and dragon dance held yesterday at the KPMG Tower in Petaling Jaya to concurrently welcome the Lunar New Year.
The performance was welcomed by the firm’s Managing Partner Datuk Johan Idris and his Executive Committee members comprising Siew Chin Kiang, Chief Operating Officer; Loh Kam Hian, Chief Financial Officer; Foong Mun Kong, Head of Audit; Abdullah Abu Samah, Head of Markets; Adrian Lee, Head of People, Performance and Culture; Tai Lai Kok, Head of Tax; and Alex Khaw, Risk Management Partner.
In reflection of KPMG’s journey since the early days, Datuk Johan said: “When we consider how our history began 29 years before Malaysia gained independence, that’s when we realize just how rich our legacy is. For 90 years, KPMG has been a business partner to various companies and supported numerous national agendas, and we’re very proud to have achieved the many milestones that have led to today’s celebration.
“We’ve been able to achieve all this thanks to our extraordinary people here today and in the past. Our legacy truly motivates us to continue delivering world class services to our clients, stakeholders and policy makers, working together towards building a stronger and sustainable economy.”
