James Chong is an Executive Director of KPMG and the Head of the Financial Risk Management practice of KPMG in Malaysia. He has 30 years of experience in the financial services industry in the Asia Pacific and Middle Eastern regions. He was previously the Chief Risk Officer of Hong Leong Bank Malaysia Bhd, and Kuwait Finance House (Malaysia) Bhd. He was also instrumental in the development of KFH’s overall business and risk management strategies during the initial start-up period and assisted the CEO/MD in overseeing many key implementation in the bank from Strategy, Capital Management, Risk and Corporate Governance, BASEL II implementation, numerous IT initiatives, Policies and Procedures. He brings with him both practical experiences as a banking practitioner (ex CRO) and a risk advisor who has led many risk management related engagements in many countries. James was also a member of one of the Working Committee in one of Islamic Financial Services Board (“IFSB”) Guiding Principles on Conduct of Business for Financial Institutions Offering Islamic Financial Services.
His main area of expertise is in financial risk and has wide range of experience of financial instruments ranging from mass market retail branch banking tocorporate and investment banking.
