KPMG staff gives a helping hand to the environment at the Pembroke Natura 2000 siteOn Saturday 15 June 2013, staff members from KPMG held a cleanup event at the Pembroke Natura 2000 site as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility agenda.

Over 20 members of staff participated in this event and they managed to collect over 170 kilos of waste dumped in this ecological site close to the heritage trail in the vicinity of the Melita sports centre.

The Executive President of Nature Trust (Malta) – Vincent Attard , which NGO facilitated the event, said that what KPMG staff did was commendable and urged other companies to follow such an example.  A spokesman from KPMG stated that KPMG seeks to promote CSR initiatives and encourages staff to participate in such events to further instil a sense of responsibility and care for our natural environment and the wider community.

The Pembroke Natura 2000 site is a site which is very rich in flora.  The site boasts of endemic species together with a large variety of orchids and many wild plants.  Pembroke is also rich in wildlife such as hedgehogs, chameleons and shrews.  Since the project to promote eco tourism started a few years ago with the Malta Tourism Authority, Nature Trust has already collected over 1800 kg of waste dumped on this site alone.

KPMG and Nature Trust thanked the Malta Tourism Authority, Wasteserv and Greenskips for their contribution to this event.  Since this is a Natura 2000 site the event was covered by a MEPA permit.
