Our bellwether Semiconductor Business Confidence Index increased in this year's survey, reflecting a more optimistic outlook about revenue trends, profitability, geographic growth, and the leaders' willingness to increase capital, R&D and employment investments.

Nearly three-quarters of the respondents agree the semiconductor industry remains in an expansion phase — driven not only by recent sources of growth, such as communications and cloud applications, but also compelling product categories including:

  • Data analytics
  • Internet of Things
  • Wearable technology
  • Robotics
  • Automotive sensors
  • Biometrics
  • Medical imaging
  • Mobile payments
  • Self-driving cars
The results also highlighted the increasingly global nature of the industry, with respondents citing strong revenue growth expectations in the United States, China, India, Europe, Japan, Taiwan and other markets.
