Last Saturday, 18 corporate teams met at the Fifteenth Anniversary Chess Championship of KPMG in Almaty to compete for the first place and the cup. For historical reasons, the tournament in Almaty, with which the history of KPMG chess championships began fifteen years ago, was held for companies representing the financial sector. Therefore, there are not so many newcomers among the companies from the banking sector participating in the contests. Year after year, new companies from other sectors and neighbouring countries (Kyrgyzstan) come to take part in the contests held in Almaty. And we gladly welcome them in our chess club. This means that the main goal of this championship, to promote this intellectual sport in Kazakhstan and Central Asia, translates into reality.

The contests were run in accordance with the FIDE regulations and Swiss system in seven rounds using the computer-based drawing procedure, Swiss Master. A team of referees headed by Nurlan Ibraev, main referee, FIDE arbiter, and international grandmaster, ensured observance of the regulations.

As a result of the anniversary championship, winners were identified in the team and in the individual championship. In the team event, the team of AO ATF Bank was the first; the chess players from DB AO Home Credit Bank were runners up; and the team of AO Alel Agro moved into the third place. In the individual championship, Bakhtiyat Askarov (ATF Bank) was leading on the first board; Sardarbek Nurdin uulu (Sky Mobile) won on the second board; and Nurlan Nurakhov (ATF Bank) won the first place on the third board.

Mementos were given to all participants of the tournament. The winners in the team and individual events were awarded with diplomas and prizes.

The Sixth KPMG Championship in Astana, which will be held on 30 June, will close this year's KPMG chess season.
