Supercharging the Alternative Investment industry

Bringing together the sharpest minds with a host of guest and industry speakers from different segments of the global alternatives industry, CAIS provides a platform to explore the challenges and opportunities facing the industry and design responses that will take it to its next level of success.

The two-day conference has grown a lot since its inception in 2012 and gathered over 600 delegates and 80 speakers this year. Once again KPMG in the Cayman Islands was a proud Executive Platinum Sponsor of the summit.

The overarching theme of this year’s event was how to “supercharge” alternative investments. The three forces that resonated throughout the event were investor divergence between millenials and institutional, regulation and technology. The opportunities for alternative fund managers over the next few years are going to be substantial to supercharge returns.

In addition to the international investment funds' representatives, the conference was also attended by many other influential people such as the American TV presenter and comedian Jay Leno, who spoke about his own investment strategies mixed in with a stand-up routine. Other high-profile guest speakers included the founder of the Virgin Group Sir Richard Branson, the actresses Jamie Lee Curtis and Meghan Markle, the world's most famous hacker Kevin Mitnick, to only name a few.

Head of Alternative Investments and Partner for KPMG in the Cayman Islands, Anthony Cowell served as editorial chair of the conference:

“The biggest challenge for the industry is how to navigate the opposing forces of: on the one hand reducing systemic risk and protecting consumers…while on the other hand, encouraging people to save and invest for the long term".
