Leif Waller heads the Financial Inclusion Sector.
Leif Waller has deep expertise in the financial sector having advised banks, aid agencies and development partners internationally over the past 25 years. Since joining KPMG 17 years ago, Leif has undertaken numerous assignments in governance, risk and compliance, business strategy and business development, as well as designed multiple training programmes on behalf of financial sector institutions in Sweden.
He headed the International Training Programme on Risk Management in Finance/Banking, sponsored by the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA), from 2003 to 2014. During this time it expanded into 4 regional and one country programme in Africa, Southeast Asia, Eastern Europe, Latin America and Iraq. Leif also headed the department for Financial Risk Management from 2009 to 2010 when he made partner at KPMG Sweden and among other responsibilities, took on the lead partner role for a contract with one of the largest Swedish banks, in addition to other projects with the World Bank and IFC.
In 2007 Leif was awarded KPMG's 75-year scholarship (Sweden) for his excellence in providing professional efforts considered to be of positive importance to KPMG's development.
To build on his recent success and take on new challenges, Leif moved to Kenya with his wife and 2 daughters. He joined KPMG East Africa in 2016 as the partner in charge of financial inclusion, as well as Nordic and Ethiopian markets within the IDAS practice. One of his larger undertakings since joining the department has been to lead the firm’s engagement with MasterCard Foundation’s Fund for Rural Prosperity, a $ 50 million fund for financial inclusion in Africa. His passion is to transfer his expertise to make financial inclusion a reality for underserved people in Africa.
He is also passionate about shaping the much needed world of philanthropic giving, and as such is a member of the Stockholm Philanthropy Symposium Advisory Board.
