Wambui Gathathi started her career as an auditor and consultant in KPMG where she developed interest in development, and the roles of different players in the development sector. She then moved to the Royal Danish Embassy in Nairobi (DANIDA), and consequently served in the Government of Kenya’s Ministry of Devolution and Planning as an Advisor; and is currently leading the grants management (MANAGE) unit within KPMG IDAS practice. Wambui is passionate about public sector governance, public policy and partnerships for development.
Wambui brings to the team over 15 years work experience in programme and financial management in the public and private sectors. She has demonstrable experience in engagement of government, civil society organisations; and international bilateral and multilateral agencies resulting from various roles as a Technical Advisor in the Ministry of Devolution and Planning; Programme Manager at the DANIDA and currently as an Associate Director within KPMG’s Advisory function. In these various roles, she has provided technical and policy support to governmental initiatives and reform programmes; supported the institutional development, training & capacity development of various implementing partner organizations; contributed towards the design and operationalization of key donor funded programmes and provided project and operational support.
When asked about her varied experience she says, ‘In life, one may find oneself in new, unexpected circumstances; and it is at those points that one should set out to learn more and thrive.’ When Wambui gets involved in something, she wants to learn about it in as much depth as possible. ‘There is power in learning and progress.’
