Jordan population

• The Jordanian population grew at a CAGR of 3.6% between 2010 (6,445 thousand) and 2014 (7,496 thousand), and according to BMI it is expected to grow at a CAGR of 1.0% between 2014 and 2020 (8,076 thousand)

• There are no major changes in the demographics of the Kingdom, except for a higher life expectancy and a slightly larger young population

• The population consists of a good portion of refugees and internally displaced persons, mainly between Palestinians, Iraqis and Syrians

• The Palestinian refugee population is the status quo as they have not been permitted to obtain the Jordanian citizenship and therefore are long term

• The Iraqi population is in decline since the beginning of the war in 2003; this was when Iraqi refugee numbers were highest

• The Syrian refugee population is growing as the conflict in Syria worsens,  there is no sign of a resolution for the near future. There are also many unaccounted for Syrians in Jordan which would greatly inflate the actual number

• All in all the total Jordanian population stands roughly at 7.7 million people, with almost 1.1 million (13.4%) of them being refugees from regional conflicts
