The Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, presented his third budget on 29 February 2016 with an agenda to transform India.

He mentioned the achievements the government achieved despite various challenges of the global economic turbulence and slowdown, and similar other challenges faced by the Indian economy. He expressed that the priorities of the government were to provide additional resources for the vulnerable sections of the society, rural areas and create social and physical infrastructure.

The Finance Minister also suggested the endeavour of the government to continue with ongoing reforms and help ensure the ingress of constitutional amendments for the passage of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Bill, other reform measures pending before the Parliament and commitment of the government to carry out tax reforms such that they reduce the compliance burden of the taxpayer and lead to faith of the citizenry.
