The long pending Constitution Amendment Bill has now been passed in the Upper House (Rajya Sabha) on 3rd August, 2016 paving the way for introduction of Goods and Services Tax (GST) in India. As a transaction-based tax, GST is set to impact not only the tax function, but would also lead to a significant transformation in the way businesses are run, cutting across various business functions such as tax, finance, supply chain, IT, sales and marketing, etc.
