CMMI helps integrate traditionally separate organizational functions, set process improvement goals and priorities, provide guidance for quality processes, and provide a point of reference for appraising current processes CMMI provides a flexible framework to provide for inclusion of various disciplines such as Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Integrated Product and Process Development and Supplier Sourcing. The latest version of CMMI version 1.2 covers three main constellations covering development, acquisition and services.
