Direct selling: Assam is a state-focused report which highlights the potential that the direct selling industry has in Assam, the challenges it faces, and
actionable recommendations at the state level to overcome these challenges.
The direct selling market in Assam was estimated to be close to INR 3.6 – 3.8 billion in 2014 and is expected to reach about INR 6-8 billion by 2025. The report recommends the immediate need to formulate sector specific rules/guidelines and standard operating procedures for law enforcement agencies, followed by an amendment in the governing legislation and a clear definition of direct selling, giving it a dedicated industry status, as well as enactment of a thorough sector specific legislation and recognition of the Ministry of Consumer Affairs as a nodal ministry for the industry thereafter.
