India has the world’s third largest military force and is the ninth highest defence spender. Nearly half of the defence equipment is approaching obsolescence and the government is heavily dependent on imports.

The Government of India (GoI) has therefore made the growth of an indigenous aerospace and defence sector a high priority. Keeping this in mind, the government has liberalised the FDI limit in defence sector from 26 to 49 per cent.
