A former advisor to the UK and Isle of Man Governments has been appointed by KPMG to introduce a new suite of cyber security services to clients in the Isle of Man.

Bryan Beesley, who becomes Senior Manager - Advisory, spent 16 years with the UK Ministry of Defence and the Foreign & Commonwealth Office working in a number of roles including
Research Engineer, Acquisition and Project Manager, Internal Management Consultant, and Global Threats and Trends Analyst.

He also served as a Private Secretary, Defence and Security Advisor, and represented the UK commercial sector on behalf of the UK Government before moving to the Isle of Man where he spent a year working as a consultant to the Manx Government in the development, formulation and drafting of its new National Cyber Security Strategy and associated concepts.

Bryan holds an MA in Defence Studies and International Relations from King’s College, London; is a graduate of the yearlong prestigious UK Defence Academy Advanced Command and Staff Course (ACSC) and has also completed the PG Dip towards the MBA (Defence) from Cranfield University. He has also gained a Postgraduate Extended Diploma in Strategic Management and Leadership from Stratford Business School and is a PRINCE 2 Practitioner. Married with a one-year-old son, Bryan also volunteers as a member of the Douglas RNLI Lifeboat crew.

In his new role at KPMG, Bryan will be responsible for providing strategic advice and guidance on cyber security matters, including cyber security assessments, audits and SOC  reporting, penetration testing and compliance evaluations, as well board level training and information assurance services.

“My ambition is to make KPMG Isle of Man first port of call on the Island for strategic cyber security advice and guidance,” he says. “KPMG has been named by Forrester Research as a global leader among security consulting providers and, as a Top Four firm, has a reputation for delivering for its clients, bringing together local knowledge with global expertise and resources.

“I am looking forward to working with a pro-active, very driven team of people as well as to developing trusting relationships with existing and new clients, helping them to increase their cyber security capabilities, capacity and resilience to ensure they can deliver their wider business objectives.”

Welcoming Bryan to the role, KPMG Isle of Man Managing Director Russell Kelly said: “The Isle of Man faces the same cyber security threats as any other nation around the world and all businesses and organisations need to be prepared to defend, recover and sustain their environments.

“While there is growing appreciation on the Island of the need to undertake cyber security information assurance across organisations, there now needs to be a drive to implement it and adopt it. We can’t wait for a big breach or incident to be the driver - maintaining a good reputation is key to future growth.

“Bryan’s depth and breadth of experience in the cyber security arena makes him the ideal person to lead the launch of KPMG’s new cyber security suite of services on the Isle of Man, and I am sure our clients will welcome this valuable addition to our existing accounting, tax and advisory services.”
