KPMG in the Isle of Man
Allan Christian joined KPMG Isle of Man in 2016, having worked independently within the UK Insurance industry for 5 years. Prior to that, he worked on the Island for a local insurance entity and a CSP vehicle. Allan has over fifteen years of experience delivering regulatory compliance, risk management, data privacy and corporate governance advisory services to financial services and tech clients, with a particular focus on the insurance and gaming industries.
Professional and Industry Experience
Within the insurance sector. Allan has predominantly worked with the Manx, Irish and UK life insurance industries, including mutuals, composites, closed book aggregators and pure unit-linked books, as well as working with the Bank of England as they transitioned into the new Solvency II regime.
Allan works with Simon Nicholas in the Isle of Man insurance practice with a focus on advisory engagements, focusing in particular on Insurance Core Principle upgrades to the island’s supervisory framework, Internal Audit, Own Risk and Solvency Assessments (ORSA) and M&A Due Diligence as well as Solvency II-related work in Gibraltar.
Allan also heads up our Data Privacy team, having advised public and private sector clients in respect of General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) preparation, as well as country-specific derogations and appropriate changes to Target Operating Models.
Representative Industry Experience
Allan’s experience includes all elements of Systems of Governance design, development and deployment in Manx and EU financial services entities, interpretation of the legislative and guideline developments in that space (e.g. IAIS ICPs, Solvency II Directive and Delegated Acts, EIOPA Guidelines, FSA consultation papers), and the reporting requirements following implementation (e.g. Own Risk and Solvency Assessments, SFCRs, public reporting).
Allan has designed and led training and briefing materials for NEDS, executives and business-as-usual staff on impending regulatory changes, as well as having performed a number of review-related supervisory tasks on ORSA, Systems of Governance and Public Reporting for the Bank of England in advance of Solvency II. He also has extensive experience in the design and implementation of “three lines of defence” models aligned to developing global expectations in the field, with his ERM framework design, roll out and industry media work nominated for a number of awards over the years.
Allan’s work in the Data Privacy space has included advisory assignments in the public sector as well as a range of financial services and gaming licence holders who have sought advice on conventional gap analysis, maturity assessments and bespoke technical matters in the lead-up to the enacting of GDPR and its local equivalent.
Allan currently participates in most KPMG Briefing Room events on the island, and has similarly provided industry briefings for a number of local industry bodies. He has participated as a trainer, speaker or guest writer on risk advisory matters for a number of UK industry bodies including the Institute of Risk Management, the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries and the Investment and Life Assurance Group.
