Insurance Breakfast Briefing on Cyber Security

IT and cyber risk are now very firmly on the agendas of Boards, shareholders, regulators and consumers.

26 April 2017, 7:15AM - 9:15AM, GMT

IT and cyber risk are now very firmly on the agendas of Boards, shareholders, regulators and consumers. They are now viewed as one of the biggest risks facing organisations. As confirmed by recent communications from the CBI including the Cross Industry Guidance on IT and Cybersecurity risks issued last September, cyber risk is a key area of regulatory focus in Ireland. Sylvia Cronin, Director of Insurance Supervision, addressed this topic at a recent KPMG event. The CBI focused on certain banks in 2014 in terms of specific aspects of external audit assurance in relation to cyber security. In 2016/ 2017, certain insurance entities are in scope for a similar exercise. We expect the regulatory scrutiny will continue.

KPMG will hold a breakfast briefing, where we will hear from Michael Daughton, KPMG's Cyber Risk Lead and Risk Consulting Partner on:

  • What is cyber risk and what are the threats?
  • Basic concepts relating to cyber security
  • Cyber risk and governance in Irish entities
  • Emerging themes and what can local Boards do
  • A short catch-up on current topics including the new General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR), which has increased the focus for clients on strengthening data protection for individuals
