In the process of acquiring another company, many companies experience massive upheaval. The challenges are especially big if the new owners have a markedly different time horizon for success than the previous owners. Expectations of transparency in reporting combined with the level of details in the budgeting phase required by the new owners are often the root cause for problems in the co-operation between the new owners and the existing top management.

We have experienced that communication, financial focus and time horizon are significantly different if the new owners are a private equity firm (PE). Similarly, involvement by the board is more operational than for traditional Danish boards.

KPMG is experienced in helping to solve the challenges that both the new owners and the newly acquired company are facing. We understand both parties and is therefore able to optimise the transition towards the new ownership, whether it is integration in a larger company or introduction to PE ownership.

The following topics are covered:

  • Evaluation of the finance function and implementation of organisational and operational improvements
  • Design and implementation of management reporting – that meets requirements of both the new owners and the existing management
  • Profitability management – how do we make money? (products, customers and sales channels)
  • Change management and top management support
  • Road map of initiatives and projects
