An overview of the HKEX’s consultation conclusions on a new listing regime for companies from emerging and innovative sectors
On 24 April 2018, the Hong Kong Stock Exchange (the Exchange) published the Consultation Conclusions Paper on a Listing Regime for Companies from Emerging and Innovative Sectors.
This follows a public consultation that was launched in February, with the Exchange receiving 283 responses from market stakeholders. The Consultation Conclusions revealed that most respondents support the Exchange’s proposals, with several commenting on some of the finer details of the proposals and requesting further clarifications from the Exchange.
Following the market feedback and discussions with the Securities and Futures Commission (the SFC), the Exchange will be implementing the proposals with a number of additional amendments and further guidance. The new listing regime will come into effect on 30 April 2018.
This Hong Kong Capital Markets Update provides an overview of the Consultation Conclusions as well as a summary of the key amendments and guidance to the proposals.
In addition, it outlines upcoming measures the Exchange plans to undertake in order to further strengthen its listing regime. This includes establishing a Biotech Advisory Panel and exploring the feasibility of allowing corporate entities to adopt weighted voting right (WVR) structures.
