Simon has been a Partner with KPMG for eight years, following nearly 30 years as a central banker/regulator with the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA), the Bank of England, and the International Monetary Fund (IMF). He has lived and worked in Asia for the last 20 years.
Simon is Head of Financial Services Regulatory Center of Excellence for KPMG across Asia Pacific, linking in with counterparts in North America and Europe to provide regulatory, compliance and risk management advice and solutions to both global and Asia/China clients.
As Executive Director (Banking Policy) at the HKMA, he was the leader of the Basel II program for Hong Kong. HKMA policy initiatives with which he is particularly associated include the policies on liquidity, Pillar 2/ICAAP, and provisioning (the “regulatory reserve”).
He travels extensively in the region, interacting with and sharing insights with both clients and regulators. Having participated regularly in both “Basel” and Asian regional supervisory groups for nearly a decade, he has had wide contact with and is well known to regulators throughout the region. He features regularly in the press, in “risk” periodicals, and at conferences.
