Jean-Luc Epars is an Attorney-at-Law and Partner with KPMG Legal Geneva. Jean-Luc graduated from the Geneva University School of Law and passed the bar exam in Geneva. Prior to joining KPMG, Jean-Luc worked as a legal counsel with a Geneva-based bank and the Geneva Justice Department. His key area of expertise is banking law, investment funds law, money laundering law and corporate law. He has significant experience in establishing banks, securities dealers, collective investment schemes and investment managers in Switzerland and negotiating the related regulatory aspects (incl. authorization or affiliation) with the FINMA (or self-regulating bodies). He advises all types of financial intermediaries on a wide range of compliance and regulatory issues, including the drafting of various regulatory guidelines and internal regulations. He has led important regulatory multidisciplinary mandates (investigation, FATCA, etc.). He has further performed and coordinated various national or international due diligence projects, in particular on regulatory aspects. Jean-Luc is a regular speaker at regulatory events in Western Switzerland.
