According to the Government of Canada Actions on Opioids 2017, we are home to the second-largest per capita consumption of opioids in the world. Problems such as rapidly rising opioid-related hospitalizations, along with the development of dangerous, synthetic versions being distributed across international borders through the black market, are causing our government and others to confront the epidemic head on.
With various solution frameworks in play around the world, countries are evaluating what is and isn’t really working. We take a look at the different approaches being taken and evaluate their progress in the key areas of prevention, treatment, harm reduction and enforcement.
