The evolving role of the General Counsel

The corporate General Counsel (GC) role is one of continuous change and evolution. Since 2012, KPMG’s GC studies have shown that the GC’s job description has been shifting from purely legal work to more business focused responsibilities. In our most recent study, we asked board members, chief executive officers, chairmen, non-executive directors and chairmen of audit committees and other business leaders from around the world about their views on the current and future role of the GC, from the outside looking in. Our work shows that business leaders are asking their GCs more than ever to assume added responsibility in order to propel business growth and progress.
