Canada’s viability as a world class exporter will ultimately depend on
satisfying Asian buyer needs for cost efficient and timely supply to meet their energy needs.
Canada has an opportunity to be a world leader in the global LNG supply race owing to its proximity to Asia, its stable and supportive political environment, its vast reserves relative to domestic demand and its pre-existing Asian upstream investments. However the opportunity is not without challenge, proponents looking to advance their projects in BC will have to be cognizant of three imperatives:
1. Timely project development and stakeholder management.
2. Clear alignment with buyers’ needs and acquisition of offtake agreements.
3. Careful cost control and optimization to avoid the pitfalls of other jurisdictions.
