Canadian Tax Adviser, April 12, 2016. The CRA and Revenue Quebec have both announced that taxpayers who are normally required to file their personal income tax returns by April 30 have until midnight on Monday May 2, 2016 to file their 2015 returns (since April 30 falls on a Saturday this year).
Tax returns and payments that are received or postmarked by midnight on May 2 will be considered to have been filed or made on time. Late-filing penalties and interest on amounts owing will apply to personal income tax returns or payments received or postmarked after May 2, 2016.
Self-employed individuals and their spouses or common-law partners have until June 15, 2016 to file their personal tax return, but any balance owing is due no later than May 2, 2016.
