Jonathan has over 25 years experience in public practice as a tax advisor. His practice is dedicated to Canadian and international taxation for a variety of real estate operators and investors including REITs, private equity funds, and private real estate enterprises. Jonathan has led numerous IPO and M&A transactions for Canadian REITs and other institutional investors. His cross-border tax advisory experience includes structuring the direct U.S. acquisitions of various Canadian REITs and private equity funds, European direct investment by Canadian institutional investors and M&A of multi-national REITs. Jon has significant experience advising non-residents on investment into Canadian real estate. Jon works closely with his counterparts in the U.S., Germany, UK, Hong Kong and Netherlands to deliver integrated tax advice to his Canadian and international clients. He has lectured on tax efficient real estate structures for Federated Press, Bloomberg BNA and In-depth Tax Course. In 2015, Jonathan authored an article on land transfer tax for Canadian Tax Focus and in 2012 he co-authored KPMG’s Canadian Real Estate Tax Handbook.
