Keno has over 18 years of experience in KPMG’s U.S. Corporate Tax group during which time he has provided tax consulting, planning and compliance services to multinational clients in various industries on a variety of U.S. federal and state income tax matters.  Keno has advised corporate and pass-through clients on numerous cross-border transactions, including mergers, reorganizations, acquisitions, divestitures, restructurings, offerings and financings. 

Keno also heads the U.S. Corporate Tax group’s alternative investment funds practice and has advised funds, including real estate focused funds, on various U.S. tax issues unique to this industry.  Keno has structured cross-border investment funds to facilitate tax efficient investments by U.S. and non-U.S. investors in U.S. assets including U.S. real estate (including REITs), infrastructure assets, securities and operating businesses.  He has also assisted clients with structuring acquisitions and dispositions of U.S. real property interests including planning to mitigate the impact of the U.S. Foreign Investment in Real Property Tax Act (FIRPTA) rules on non-U.S. buyers.  Keno’s experience in the fund sector also includes advising clients on U.S. tax issues relevant to their investors including U.S. federal and state income tax compliance, withholding taxes, information reporting, FATCA and Common Reporting Standard.  Keno also has significant experience advising fund clients on PFIC issues and providing PFIC information reporting services to their investors. 

Keno also has significant experience in leading U.S. tax due diligence assignments, working on over 100 transactions, for real estate funds, pension funds, private equity funds and strategic buyers on targets in various industries in order to identify significant tax risks.  During such due diligence assignments, Keno has assisted purchasers with structuring potential acquisitions, including reviewing tax models and tax projections, and assisting with post-acquisition implementation.
