Michel has nearly 20 years' of tax litigation and dispute resolution experience, gained in private law firms. Since September 2015, Michel is a partner in each of KPMG Law LLP and its affiliated firm, KPMG Canada LLP, and oversees KPMG's tax litigation and dispute resolution practice in Western Canada.
In October 2017, Michel was appointed a member of the Judicial Advisory Committee of the Tax Court of Canada, a committee of 5 people who make recommendations to the Minister of Justice on appointments to the Tax Court of Canada.
Michel’s law practice focuses primarily on tax litigation and dispute resolution matters. Prior to joining KPMG Law in September 2015, Michel was a tax partner with a leading Canadian law firm. Michel specializes in resolution of income tax, GST, customs and excise, and provincial tax audits and assessments, including matters relating to GAAR, SRED and transfer pricing. He has appeared before the Tax Court of Canada, the Federal Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court of Canada.
