The Bribery Act 2016 (“the Act”) will come into force in Bermuda on September 1, 2017. The Act includes four main types of offence:

  • Bribing another person;
  • Accepting a bribe;
  • Bribery of foreign officials; and
  • Failure of commercial organizations to prevent bribery.

All public officials will also be mandated to report any offer of a bribe, or face stiff penalties.

Compliance with the Act is required immediately.

How can KPMG help?

We are running two training sessions which aim to assist you and your staff inmeeting your compliance responsibilities under the Act.

The first of our sessions is aimed at Compliance Officers and MLROs and focuses on the practicalities and challenges of incorporating the Act into your organization’s policies and procedures.

The second of our sessions, “Bribery for Beginners”, is aimed at staff with little to no understanding of bribery and related offences. As well as raising awareness, this session seeks to meet the requirement to ensure adequate training for employees on the Act and its implications.
