Meet Andrew

I began my audit career at KPMG Glasgow working in the Financial Services department. I then joined KPMG in Bermuda in September 2016.

I was interested in a move to Bermuda as I wanted to gain life experience in another country and the beautiful surroundings in Bermuda were certainly appealing too! The good weather also topped the list (although at the time of writing, it is winter and I’m led to believe we’ll see it soon!) Bermuda’s location also provides good opportunities to travel with being only a 2 hour flight from New York, and possibilities from there are endless!

Coming from a KPMG office, the Global Mobility program made the transition to another country really simple and smooth. The HR team in Bermuda will make sure all your paperwork is in order to sort out work permit etc. and the team in your local office will help you sort out tax or any other concerns prior to leaving. The Bermuda office was recommended to me by a colleague who had spent time here on secondment – and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend to others. I have the opportunity to work with a diverse range of people on a daily basis, from a number of backgrounds – both my colleagues and our clients. The senior team and partners take the time to help out with training and really do help to get the new staff up to speed as quickly as possible.

So far, I am loving Bermuda’s views! You can see the sea from almost anywhere on the island and it will cheer you up on any day! It’s so easy to jump in a kayak and go out to explore all of the “private” beaches, which are the most amazing I have seen anywhere!

My experience over the last four and a half years working at KPMG in the UK and now Bermuda has been pretty interesting (outside of actual work)! In Bermuda, the annual staff golf day, which serves as an initiation to new joiners on the island was certainly different, having a Dark n Stormy (local alcoholic drink) at 8am in the sunshine is an experience you’re unlikely to forget – especially the next day!

During my time with KPMG in the UK, I was part of a team that saved the most hours on an audit engagement and as a result won an all-expenses paid weekend in Cannes, in the South of France, with tickets to the Monaco F1 Grand Prix thrown in…not bad!

If you are moving to Bermuda, my advice would be to bring waterproof clothes – it can get pretty wet driving a scooter in January and February! Choose somewhere to live that reminds you every day why you chose to live in Bermuda – make sure you have a view!
