KPMG will support the university to deploy the people, process and technology elements of its transformation journey leveraging leading cloud technology.

The project includes the implementation of Workday Financials in order to streamline its back office finance function. Workday consolidates accounting, procurement management and reporting and processes into one cloud-based platform, providing a more efficient solution and one that allows easy reporting for University staff.

William Confalonieri, Deakin University Chief Digital Officer & Vice-President said: “Deakin is driving the digital frontier, which is why we are delighted to work with KPMG and to implement Workday software. This will allow us to embrace a new way of working that will improve the speed and efficiency of our services and enable us to deliver faster, more insightful analysis and decision-support to help achieve our strategic goals.”

Kerrie Parker, Deakin University Chief Financial Officer added: “Following an extensive procurement process, we are pleased to have KPMG on board. We were impressed by their broad transformation mindset, technology capability, deep sector knowledge and recognition that our Finance Business Transformation Project calls for a harmonious integration of people, process and technology to achieve Deakin’s goals.”

“The role of finance is changing, with a critical focus on providing insights and analysis to the business. One of the biggest obstacles we see finance teams confront is the generation of consistent, accurate data from multiple systems to support planning, reporting and analysis activities,” said Mark Tucker, KPMG Australia Financial Management National Leader.

Dr Julian Edwards, KPMG Australia Technology Enablement Partner added: “We are excited to support Deakin’s move to Workday and to help them build a more complete picture of the performance of their business and provide the platform for a significant uplift in their business partnering capability. This is all part of a broader digitization program within the university and part of a broader sector wide digital transformation trend. ”

Professor Stephen Parker, KPMG Australia Education National Sector Leader said that Deakin is at the forefront of modernisation that will sweep the university sector.

“It is great to be working with such a forward-looking university on a transformation that will position them as a leading institution,” he said.

Deakin kicked off its transformation partnership with KPMG in January 2018.
