Michael will take over the role from the current Chair, Rob Jones, who will step down as a partner on 31 December. Both are based in KPMG’s Brisbane office.

Michael is the current National Leader of KPMG Australia’s Infrastructure, Government & Healthcare practice. Prior to this, Michael held positions as Leader of KPMG’s Advisory business in Queensland and also led the Firm’s Queensland Government practice.

During his 31 years at KPMG Australia, Michael has led numerous consulting projects across all levels of Government and across the financial services, transport, health and utility sectors.

In his new role, Michael will lead the Queensland operations of KPMG and continue to drive the Firm’s growth agenda across the whole of the Queensland market.

He commenced his career with KPMG in 1986 as a graduate in the Audit Division and was promoted to partner in the Firm’s Management Consulting Division in 1998. Michael is a qualified Chartered Accountant and a Registered Psychologist and has advised clients on organisation, design, strategy and operational improvement.

KPMG Australia CEO Gary Wingrove said: “Michael is an incredibly skilled and insightful leader who is passionate about his clients and our people. The market insights Michael has gained from his Infrastructure Government and Healthcare role and his knowledge of the firm's growth strategy will be critical to continuing to drive the growth agenda for our Queensland Office.”

Rob Jones steps down after five years as Queensland State Chair, and 39 years in total at KPMG. Rob led the Queensland Audit practice for more than 10 years and established KPMG’s Transaction Services business in Queensland after returning in 2000 from a secondment to the UK.

Mr Wingrove said: “Rob has successfully led the Queensland practice as State Chair since 2012 and has been a key driver for the strong growth the practice has experienced in that time. During his tenure with the firm Rob has consistently provided strong leadership, focused on KPMG’s market presence and has positioned the practice for future growth. We thank Rob for his outstanding service in the State Chair role.”

Rob will work closely with Michael to ensure a smooth transition of responsibilities and will continue to manage the firm’s sponsorship and involvement in the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.
