KPMG Australia has acquired the Migration Services business of the Chamber of Commerce & Industry of Western Australia (CCI WA), expanding the firm’s immigration business in the state.

Immigration is an increasingly complex issue for corporates and a growing part of KPMG’s business, with the firm’s national immigration practice consisting of more than 30 specialists advising on immigration strategies for companies and individuals.

Michael Wall, KPMG Head of Immigration, said: “The government’s decision to abolish and replace the long-established Temporary 457 Work visa with a new Temporary Skill Shortage visa from March next year poses a considerable challenge to companies - multinational enterprises in particular - who need to bring in skilled staff and move people around between countries to address their requirements in different markets.”

“KPMG is well placed to assist companies navigate through the complexities and challenges arising from these recently announced changes. Through our global network, we can also help businesses seeking to expand into offshore markets to manage their outbound visa and tax requirements.”

Migration Services was a commercial unit of CCI WA, specialising in corporate immigration consulting to its members since 2003. Services include establishment of business sponsorship arrangements, managing Australian visa applications for employer sponsored temporary and permanent residence applications, negotiating labour agreements, and consulting to business on sponsorship obligations and undertakings.

KPMG is working closely with CCI WA to ensure a seamless transition for its members and clients. The new contracts will be serviced by KPMG’s existing immigration team.

Commercial terms were not disclosed.
