KPMG is honoured to be appointed as the Official Professional Services Advisor and Supporter of the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games (GC2018).
4 April 2018 - 15 April 2018, 8:00AM - 11:00PM, EST
As the Official Professional Services Advisor, we are providing essential audit, tax and advisory capabilities to the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games Corporation (GOLDOC).
GC2018 will be held from 4–15 April 2018 and will be the 21st Commonwealth Games. The 11-day event will see 71 teams from 54 Commonwealth nations and territories descend on the Gold Coast to compete.
With approximately 6,500 athletes and team members participating, GC2018 will be the largest sporting event in Australia this decade, and the largest the Gold Coast has ever hosted.
In a boost for Queensland, various competitions will also be held in other locations in the state, including Brisbane for shooting and indoor cycling, and Cairns and Townsville for preliminary basketball matches.
This is the fifth time Australia has staged the Commonwealth Games. Others include Sydney in 1938 (British Empire Games), Perth in 1962 (British Empire and Commonwealth Games), Brisbane in 1982 and Melbourne in 2006. However this is the first time it will be held in a regional Australian city.
KPMG Gold Coast Managing Partner Adam Twemlow is leading KPMG’s involvement, with KPMG professionals involved in numerous capacities, including secondments.
GC2018 will involve approximately 1,000 technical officials, over 1,000 GOLDOC staff and 15,000 volunteers.
It is predicted around 1.5 million people will attend as spectators, with 1.5 billion people watching the competitions from across Australia and around the world.
