Hessel leads KPMG’s bank strategy practice in Australia. His focus on strategy consulting in banking helps to support his clients make the necessary but difficult choices required to remain competitive in today's rapidly changing industry.
He believes that the sector needs to focus on simplification of its strategies and operations in order to best serve its customers. Hessel takes a collaborative approach, and enjoys receiving and providing challenges to ideas.
Born and raised in the Netherlands, Hessel came to Australia in 2001 in search of adventure and a new lifestyle. He has worked for a number of local strategy consulting firms – both boutique and larger firms – with a strong focus on banking and financial services. He joined KPMG in 2018, and is very excited by the calibre of the team and its ability to make a real impact for clients.
Outside of work, Hessel derives a lot of enjoyment from his wife and young children. He is devoted to trail and long distance running, which offers the combined benefits of stress recovery, physical fitness and time spent in Sydney's beautiful nature.
In 2018, Hessel ran his first 50 kilometre ultra-marathon on the trails in Katoomba, and is planning to come back fitter and faster in future races.
