Bernard Salt's leading work in demographics has given businesses vital insights into societal changes that impact decision making, while also capturing wide public interest.
"Demographics is code for 'futurism' – you can interpret bigger-picture trends by interpreting demographic trends, and use the findings at a strategy level," he says.
Bernard launched KPMG Demographics and has since predicted major trends such as the baby boomer ‘sea change’ in property buying, ‘Gen-Y expectations’ in their careers and lifestyles, and also the ‘man drought’. "This has helped to broaden the appeal and loosen the image of demographics," he says.
Bernard's goal is to extend the breadth of research and information into new territories, and he is exploring the power shift from America to China, tax trends and jobs of the future. "We are aiming to have an impact globally, as we have a unique service and a unique perspective," he says.
An avid writer for The Australian newspaper, Bernard shares his findings and observations on social and generational matters in weekly columns. He has written six books, including The Big Shift (2001) and More Decent Obsessions (2014). He is also a popular public speaker.
Bernard travels to Europe every year with his wife and children for rejuvenation and fresh inspiration.
