James Hunter

National Managing Partner, Markets & Growth

KPMG Australia

James’ purpose is ‘Dream – Believe – Focus – Succeed' – simply translated James’ passion is helping incredible women and men, of all ages, articulate their life, family and career dreams – help them absolutely believe they are achievable and helping coach, support and mentor them to achieve each of the crucial small steps which are cornerstones to the success and achievement of their dream. He believes this purpose is crucial to our roles as senior leaders in companies, in the community and wider society.

James’ strong belief in making a real impact in every interaction was forefront in his early leadership roles as an Officer in the Australian Navy; as a mathematics teacher at Shore School, and in his corporate roles in Boral and Origin Energy. These early experiences informed his interest in building effective teams and leading with pragmatic strategies and actions to achieve a particular goal.

A couple of decades later, and following the successful completion of an MBA, James continued building his governance and leadership skills at a range of organisations before settling at KPMG. As National Managing Partner, Markets & Growth, James currently applies his formidable skills set to make lasting contributions across KPMG’s client base. “Our clients are at the centre of KPMG’s strategy. We bring global thinking and insights, the best capability from Australia and our global network to create teams and thought leadership that successfully addresses each project’s particular goals and challenges. And the programs we lead are not only transforming private and public sectors, but shaping the future direction and success of our communities, companies and society for our kids.”

James continues to apply his passion for developing and executing public and private sector organisational strategy, with an emphasis on co-creating a business vision and achieving outstanding results with carefully curated senior teams. This client-centric thinking has led to business relationships that span the decades as well as many sectors across Australian business.

Outside work, James is an active family man who sits on the Pymble Ladies’ College Council, proudly participates in White Ribbon and in the Oz Harvest CEO Cook Off and raises money for the incredibly important cause helping literally over 1.2m people nationally every year.

James is a self-professed fitness ‘nut’ exercising daily and is a proud member of the KPMG Dragon Boat racing team which is part of the colourful Chinese New Year celebrations at Darling Harbour. When he needs to step away and clear his head, James travels overseas with his wife Katrina, and children Charlie, Lexie and Harry, or simply reaches for a paintbrush, acrylics and a canvas.
