Partner and National Sector Leader, Real Estate & Construction
As a child, Steve happily accompanied his parents on regular outings to inspect real estate. “Some people go to the footy; we went out to view property.” Learning the fundamentals of real estate at such an early stage has made it a lifelong passion.
Today Steve is national lead of KPMG’s Real Estate practice, having spent more than 30 years at the firm.
During that time, Steve has worked on numerous capital market transactions in the property sector. IPOs, in particular, resonate with him. He loves the raw energy they demand, and the precision. “So much happens in such a short space of time. The level of perfection required means everyone is on their game.”
Such experiences have taught Steve the importance of open communication, and an inquiring mind. “There can be no assumptions. If you have any doubts, be brave enough to ask the question that is the elephant in the room.”
Steve’s other passion is cycling. It led him to establish the Property Industry Foundation’s cycling charity event. He also enjoys cooking – the ideal end to a long weekend bike ride. “If I can find a recipe that takes four hours to cook, I’ve got the perfect excuse to take it easy for the rest of the day.”
