Global Lead for Human Services and National Sector Lead – Health, Ageing & Human Services
Liz began her career as a social worker. Today she is KPMG’s Global Lead for Human & Social Services and is Deputy Chair of KPMG Australia. Within Australia Liz leads KPMG's National Health, Ageing & Human Services practice, a key adviser to government as well as the private and not-for-profit sectors. Under Liz’s tutelage, the practice specialises in strategy, policy development, program design and reform, service improvement, resource allocation and funding methodologies and evaluation. “For me, it’s all about creating opportunities for individuals, families and communities that experience disadvantage, disability or vulnerability.”
Liz believes a positive attitude is essential to her role: “It’s a matter of seeing the opportunity not the constraint. It’s about trying to find the one or two or three things that will move an issue forward.” That includes bringing your stakeholders along with you. “You can solve the problem at a theoretical level but changes in behaviour, in a system, in practice, all have to align and that’s a complicated thing to do.”
Liz’s lifelong passion has flowed through to her children. All four are pursuing careers that either focus on human services or working with a professional services firm. As for Liz, now they are young adults she is reacquainting herself with the concept of free time. Time spent at the beach holds the most appeal, particularly when friends and family are involved.
